Local Reaction to NSA Data Collection Program

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Even if you’re not doing anything wrong, you’re being watched and recorded. Those are the words of Edward Snowden, the man who claims to be behind those National Security Agency leaks.

Some saying it’s a complete invasion of privacy and others saying if it keeps me safe, keep looking. Is everything we say and do online or by cell phone being monitored by the government? The leak from Edward Snowden has many Americans thinking twice about their digital fingerprint.

"I don't feel the government should be able to go through or check our phone records and go through all of our emails and stuff like that. That should be our own personal business and everything. Not their business,” said Larry Bradshaw.

Snowden revealing the National Security Agency has been collecting millions of phone records of Verizon customers and getting information from emails and pictures from the internet.

Both counties and the city of Rochester saw more than a dozen additional thefts.

Six year old boy hit by truck

It was a scary moment during a softball game today when a six-year-old boy was hit by a truck.

It happened just after 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park in Kasson. Mayo One was called in to transport the boy.

Despite the incident happening at a softball tournament with plenty of people around, police say no one witnessed the actual accident, but do believe the boy was leaving the bathroom and crossing a road next to the softball field when he was hit.

Police say the boy is from Chatfield. Because of his age, Mayo Clinic will not release his condition. Witnesses say he was unconscious for a short amount of time but then started screaming and was alert when getting into Mayo One. The driver of the truck that hit the boy is James Evenson of Mantorville. Police say he will likely not face any charges.

More Mosquitoes Could Lead to West Nile Problems

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Mosquito experts say this year is a perfect storm for producing massive amounts of mosquitoes.

You may think more mosquitoes will result in an increase in the West Nile Virus. Mayo Clinic experts say this could be the case, but it's not quite that simple.

Dealing with mosquitoes is something we learn to live with in the Midwest. The Mosquito Squad of South East Minnesota sprays numerous yards every season, but this year they have their work cut out for them.

"Not only will we have this year’s eggs hatching, but also last years that probably didn't hatch due to the dry conditions," said Tammy Buchanan, Owner of SE Minnesota Mosquito Squad.

With the wet spring we've had, the mosquito squad says the population will at least double this year. Which is a concern in more ways than one.
