Rochester Symphony Orchestra & Chorale's Free Outdoor Concert

The Rochester Symphony Orchestra & Chorale's 2nd annual free community concert in the Peace Plaza, is Friday, June 21st. It starts at 7:30. Lights Camera Symphony!  is a performance of music from your favorite epic movies of our time. Don't forget your lawn chairs! Ice cream sandwiches and beverages will be available for purchase. The event is perfect for people of all ages.

You can also purchase tickets to join your friends at the Pre-Concert VIP Party at the Kahler Grand Hotel, space is limited. Tickets are $75 each. They gains you entry to the party, with a cash bar and appetizers, entertainment and a reserved seat in Producers Row for the concert! $50 is tax deductible the proceeds benefit the RSOC's mission and help create more events such as this in our community.

Thursdays on First & 3rd Starts in One Week

Thursdays on first & 3rd is back for another year of summer fun! Thursdays on first & 3rd has become a truly authentic community gathering place with a variety of live music featured on two stages, a tasteful spread of outdoor food choices and an exciting mix of market vendors showcasing art, craft and baked goods products. Thursdays on first & 3rd begins June 6th and runs every Thursday through August 29th (note: there will be no event on July 4th).

To provide additional color and vitality in downtown Rochester and to promote a friendly pedestrian experience for visitors and residents alike, the Rochester Downtown Alliance’s Downtown Cultural Initiatives Committee is gearing up for more Public Art initiatives to be installed during the Summer of 2013. The Downtown Cultural Initiatives is a committee that focuses on utilizing the Rochester community’s art and cultural assets in creating a vibrant, unique downtown that has a strong, diversified base for economic prosperity.

RCTC Fine Arts Workshops and Student Art Exhibition

Rochester Community and Technical College is is hosting Fine Arts Workshops and a Student Art Exhibition at the University Rochester Center from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Saturday, April 27th.  RCTC faculty from four Fine Arts Departments – Art + Design, Dance, Music and Theatre – will present an afternoon of workshops culminating in a public reception.

Workshops are open to local high school students (grades 9-12), parents and college age students.  All workshops and events are free and open to the general Rochester community.  Registration for the workshops will begin at 12 noon and be ongoing throughout the event.   Tours of RCTC’s Fine Arts facilities and workshops will be available from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.

On Friday, April 26, Rochester Art Center will celebrate the opening of new exhibitions by three talented women artists.  Henny Linn Kjellberg of Uppsala, Sweden will present Critical Mass, a ceramic installation in RAC’s Wells Fargo Atrium; Katie Hargrave, a Minneapolis-based artist, will present How to Fold L’Étoile du Nord in the 3rd Floor Emerging Artist Series; and Rochester Artist Nicole Havekost will present Mend and Measure in the RAC Local Artist Series. Honors Choirs of SE MN Season Finale Concert

Welcome spring with an afternoon of beautiful music!  Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota invites you to our Spring Finale concert! Four youthful ensembles make up the Honors Choirs: Children's Chorus (grades 3-4), Treble Choir (grades 5-6), Chorale (grades 7-9) and Concert Choir (grades 10-12). Each of the four choirs will perform individually and then all 240+ voices will close the concert with the upbeat and rhythmic, “Festival Sanctus.” 

The program will feature many kinds of music – from “Circle of Life,” sung by Chorale, to “Alleluia Canon,” sung by Treble Choir. Come and hear these accomplished and enthusiastic young singers as they conclude a wonderful year of singing together. You won’t want to miss this colorful musical bouquet for spring!

RCTC Fine Arts Open House

Rochester Community and Technical College is hosting a Fine Arts Open House on Saturday, April 27th.  RCTC’s Fine Arts Department includes Art + Design, Dance, Music and Theatre.  Faculty from each of these departments will present an afternoon of workshops followed by a public reception.  Registration begins at 12 noon and is ongoing in the main atrium entrance at University Center Rochester.  Workshops are 1 pm – 4 pm and a public reception featuring student artwork and performances will be held from 4 pm – 5 pm in the College Center Cafeteria.  Area high school students grades 9 – 12 and college age students are encouraged to attend.  Parents are encouraged to accompany teens.  All workshops an
