Nurses Night Out! Celebrate and Honor Them!

Nurses Night Out! Celebrate and Honor Them!

We can all remember a time in our life when we have been sick or injured. Almost every time we visit the hospital there’s that one special person that is always the first to help you… a nurse.

Come and pay tribute to one of the hardest working groups in the hospital Thursday, May 30th in the Peace Plaza for Nurses Night Out.

This event is free and open to the whole community. From 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. local businesses and bars will line the Peace Plaza as we celebrate one of our favorite health care professionals.

5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. there will be a fashion show on the Peace Plaza stage. There will even be a life-size Operation board bean bag toss. Great music, lots of prizes, cash bars, and food vendors; what better way to say thanks to our wonderful nurses.

Documents Reveal What DMC Could Bring to Rochester

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- After two close votes, the Destination Medical Center project passed through the Senate and now we have an idea of what DMC could look like.

The DMC proposal calls for $585 million for public infrastructure and some documents are showing just where that money will go for everything from transportation to parking.

"What would it take to develop Rochester primarily the downtown to handle 30,000 more employees downtown and several million more annual visitors?” said Gary Nuemann, Assistant City Administrator.

Neumann says a plan put together by the city, Mayo Clinic, and a consulting firm, is just a guideline, but gives an idea of just where that money could go.

"The bulk of the cost of this plan is for basic type infrastructure, it's really transportation, transit, parking, and public utilities,” said Neumann.

RPU Unveils Details of Plan to Decommission Silver Lake Plant

(ABC 6 News) - Rochester Public Utilities staff presented the decommissioning plan for the Silver Lake Plant to the RPU Board Tuesday afternoon.

As we've reported, RPU originally announced its plan to decommission the plant back in August, but it's taken nearly a year to put the actual plan together on how to decommission the plant. In the end, the plant will not only stop using coal, but stop generating electricity all together.

As a result, RPU expects to save an estimated $44 million over the next seven years.

"The decommissioning of SLP is not just about cost savings or a cheaper kWh, it is about positioning RPU for the near term and post SMMPA (2030)," said RPU General Manager Larry Koshire.

DMC Question: Eminent Domain

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Brenda L. asked, "With giving them the power of eminent domain, what places do they plan to take over?"

We turned to Rochester City Administrator Steven Kvenvold who said,"At this point in time there aren't any plans.. And so there's no knowledge about whatever this authority may do in terms of any eminent domain. But the eminent domain laws are fairly restrictive. They can only be used for a public purpose. They can't be used for economic development purposes, meaning that the authority will not be able to purchase some land from one entity and give it to another for terms of, for some economic development project. So it's fairly limited..
