A local campaign kicked off today in Rochester.

State Senator Mike Parry, a Republican from Waseca, says he's running against Congressman Tim Walz.

Parry was at the Canadian Honker Restaurant in Rochester Thursday morning, talking with potential voters.

The DFL Party calls Parry a "radical tea party politician", but Parry says he's seeking higher office because Walz isn't doing a good enough job.

     "We need good representation in southern Minnesota," says Sen. Parry. "This is a great part of the state and a great state and Congressman Walz hasn't been representing the folks as he tells them he's going to represent them when he's in the district."

For the moment, Parry is the only Republican to declare for Walz's congressional seat.
