On a day when it feels like the sun is almost touching you, the Soldiers Field Pool was packed.
A day so hot, more lifeguards were called in. The pool filled up so fast, some had to wait outside, hoping to get in for a chance to cool off.
"We've been at full capacity since one o'clock," said Amanda Davis, manager of the pool.
Lifeguards reminded swimmers to drink plenty of water and lather on sunscreen. With the dangerous heat, mayor Ardell Brede declared both the city's outdoor pools be opened Wednesday and Thursday free of charge.
"I think its amazing because there's probably plenty of people who couldn't have come because it costs money," said Molly Fitzgerald, who took her kids to the pool.
Soldiers Field pool opens Thursday at noon, Silver Lake pool at 1p.m. We're told both places may stay open later due to the huge crowds that attended Wednesday.
