Honors Choirs of SE MN Looking for a Few Good Singers

The Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota is holding auditions in May and early June. The regional non-profit goup is made up of four choirs for grades 3-12. In this, the group's 20th year, more than 250 singers from 27 southeast Minnesota communities took part.

Honors Choirs offers motivated singers a unique opportunity to experience artisitc challenge and growth. The choirs rehearse Sunday afternoons and evenings throughout the school year in Rochester.

Singers pay tuition, but scholarships are available for those in need.

Free Trolley Rides

Free Trolley Rides

In celebration of national travel and tourism week, the Rochester Trolley and Tour Company is offering free trolley tours. Rides started Wednesday, May 9th and continue through Thursday, May 10th in Rochester. The tours feature some of Rochester's most famous sights including the Plummer House and Mayowood Mansion.      Three of the girls scouts most popular cookie flavors will soon be in candy bar form.

     Nestle announced the plans to make the limited edition crunch candy bars.

     They’ll be sold in stores, not door-to-door by scouts.

     The flavors include thin mints, caramel coconut and peanut butter crème.

     They’ll be sold June through September at retailers nationally.

     Girl scouts sold 760-million dollars in cookies last year.

"Bikes for Everybody" Event

"Bikes for Everybody" Event

The annual "Bikes for Everybody" event in Rochester is set for Monday, May 7th from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Graham Arena located at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds. It will be an open house style event and those interested are invited to ride demonstration bikes, get fitted properly to a bike, and speak to representatives about specialized equipment needs. The event is for anyone with either has a mobility and/or cognitive impairment who would like to ride a bike, but requires special fittings, equipment, or specially designed bikes to be able to do so. Rochester Civic Theatre has announced the new season of 2012 – 2013. Six main stage productions will be presented during the 61st season. The new season brochure is available for the general public at the Civic Theatre.

Arbor Day Celebration

Rochester Public Utilities, with partners Maier Forest and Tree and Rochester Park and Recreation, will host the 10th Annual Arbor Day Celebration on Friday, April 27th from 11 a.m. to1 p.m. at Mayo Park behind the Mayo Civic Center.

The fun and free community event will feature a variety of activities and displays that will include: A tree giveaway of over 3,000 trees, a free lunch of hot dogs, corn on the cob, chips, cookies, and soda will be provided (while supplies last), and live music from Paul Mayasich and his band, Real American Made Music. Tree experts will also be on hand to answer questions on tree planting and care, along with many other vendor displays.

Children will be able to enjoy Smokey Bear, balloonists, a scavenger hunt, temporary tattoos, bean bag toss, and much more!
