Foster-Arend Beach Opens Saturday

Foster-Arend Beach in Rochester will open for the season Saturday. It will remain open through Labor Day. Beach hours will be 10 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily. Park hours are 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. There is no admission charge at the beach. Secutiry officers will be on site during beach hours, but no lifeguards will be on duty. Rules include: no alcohol in the park, no dogs in the beach area, no smoking in the beach area, no glass in the beach area, and no swimming outside the designated swimming area.

“Corvettes on the Plaza”

The Rochester Downtown Alliance is teaming up with the Rochester Area Corvette Enthusiasts to bring “Corvettes on the Plaza” to downtown Rochester. The first of 5 events will take place on Saturday, May 18th from 12:00-4:00pm. This event will take place on the Peace Plaza in downtown Rochester.

Do you know the difference between a C3 and a C5? Come and learn all about Corvettes on the Peace Plaza. There will be several different models of Corvettes for you to explore.

Be sure to mark your calendar for four more “Corvettes on the Plaza” This event will also be held on the Peace Plaza on:

June 15, 2013 – 12:00-4:00pm
July 27, 2013 – 12:00-4:00pm
August 17, 2013 – 12:00-4:00pm
September 21, 2013 – 12:00-4:00pm

Comedy Show to Benefit At-Risk Youth

There are still tickets available for the Dinner and Comedy Benefit the LINK program is hosting May 14th at Goonies Comedy Club in downtown Rochester. Doors open at 6 PM, dinner served at 6:30 and comedy is from 7:30 to 9 PM. All of the proceeds raised from this benefit will go to Lutheran Social Service LINK Program and Street Outreach Program to serve a youth in our community. RCTC Fine Arts Workshops and Student Art Exhibition

RCTC Fine Arts Workshops and Student Art Exhibition

Rochester Community and Technical College is is hosting Fine Arts Workshops and a Student Art Exhibition at the University Rochester Center from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm on Saturday, April 27th. RCTC faculty from four Fine Arts Departments – Art + Design, Dance, Music and Theatre – will present an afternoon of workshops culminating in a public reception.

Workshops are open to local high school students (grades 9-12), parents and college age students. All workshops and events are free and open to the general Rochester community. Registration for the workshops will begin at 12 noon and be ongoing throughout the event. Tours of RCTC’s Fine Arts facilities and workshops will be available from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.

On Saturday, April 27, the Rochester Area Family YMCA and Olmsted Medical Center are celebrating YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day® with a free community event that encourages kids in Rochester to get moving and learning, and families living healthier. Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, takes place at 1,900 Ys and kick-starts healthier behaviors now and throughout the summer, a critical out-of-school time for children’s health. RPS Program Receives Highest Rating Possible

Rochester Public Schools' School Readiness Program has received the highest rating possible, four out of four stars, from the Parent Aware orgnization. The School Readiness Program is an effort between RPS and Child Care Resource and Referral serving children from three years old to kindergarten age. According to the district, the program works to make sure young children enter school with the necessary skills and behaviors to progress and flourish.

Parent Aware helps parents in Minnesota find child care and early education providers focused on high quality early learning and kindergarten readiness. Their one- to four-star ratings system – a free service – measures best practices identified by research that help children succeed in kindergarten and beyond.
