Should Teenagers Be Able to Drink? | Politics
Title (Max 100 Characters)
Representative Phyllis Kahn of Minneapolis is pushing to allow teenagers to drink in bars and restaurants. She said its a way to fight the binge drinking problem in the state.
If passed, the bill would allow 18 year-olds to drink in bars and restaurants and would allow parents to buy alcohol for their kids as young as 16. However, the bill would not allow teenagers to buy alcohol at stores.
"Being able to drink when you're at an event with your parents I think is a very good way to understand how to do responsible drinking," said Rep. Kahn.
There is opposition to the bill. Kristine Hernandez, an area coordinator for the state's Toward Zero Death campaign fears the bill will increase the number of traffic fatalities.
