Thursdays on First & 3rd Starts in One Week

Thursdays on first & 3rd is back for another year of summer fun! Thursdays on first & 3rd has become a truly authentic community gathering place with a variety of live music featured on two stages, a tasteful spread of outdoor food choices and an exciting mix of market vendors showcasing art, craft and baked goods products. Thursdays on first & 3rd begins June 6th and runs every Thursday through August 29th (note: there will be no event on July 4th).

Valleyhigh Drive Closed June 1st

On Saturday June 1, 2013 Valleyhigh Drive (CSAH #4) will be closed to traffic for one work day. Valleyhigh Drive will be closed while a 220’ long 185 ton Truss is hoisted on to the pedestrian bridge piers that span over Valleyhigh Drive. 

It is expected the roadway will be closed to traffic about 7:00 AM at the site and be reopened as soon as the Bridge section is set inplace. Valleyhigh Drive both east and west of the bridge will remain open. No detour will be signed. It is recommended the the use of 19th St. N.W. to West Circle Drive as the alternate route.

2nd Street Sidewalk Project

2nd Street Sidewalk Project

Work on the 2nd St. S.W. Sidewalk project between Broadway and 1st Ave. S.W. has progressed enough on the north side of 2nd St. that on Tuesday June 4, 2013 sidewalk work will move to the south side of 2nd St. S.W. During construction 2nd St S.W. will remain open to two way traffic with only the outside lanes being closed to facilitate the construction. Pedestrian ramps on the corners of Broadway and 1st Ave. are not included in contract work and will remain open. Pedestrians will be directed to the opposite side of the street of where work is taking place. Please follow the directional signs.  Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of June 2013. Work should not impact the annual Thursday’s on 1st and 3rd Celebration which begins in June.

To provide additional color and vitality in downtown Rochester and to promote a friendly pedestrian experience for visitors and residents alike, the Rochester Downtown Alliance’s Downtown Cultural Initiatives Committee is gearing up for more Public Art initiatives to be installed during the Summer of 2013. The Downtown Cultural Initiatives is a committee that focuses on utilizing the Rochester community’s art and cultural assets in creating a vibrant, unique downtown that has a strong, diversified base for economic prosperity.

Rochester Road Closure

Rochester Road Closure

2nd Street NW from 12th Avenue to 13th Avenue in Rochester will be closed to through traffic starting Monday, June 3. The closure is expected to last one month. There won’t be an organized detour. It is part of a reconstruction project of 2nd Street NW which includes the installation of new sanitary sewer, water main, storm sewer, service connections, and roadway reconstruction.

"Butt Kickers" Back At It

"Butt Kickers" Back At It

The “Butt Kickers” from John Adams are at it again! The “Butt Kickers” will spend the day picking up cigarette butts from Downtown Rochester on Tuesday, June 4th. The Rochester Downtown Alliance, Mayor Ardell Brede, Rochester Park and Recreation, and the Make Rochester A Litter Butt Better! Program have offered a bounty on cigarette butts and the “Butt Kickers” have answered the call yet again. In 2012, this group picked up 24,811 cigarette butts in one day and their $1240.55 bounty went to John Adam’s Science Alive Lab. (Photo: 2012 “Butt Kickers” with Mayor Ardell Brede)
