Destination Medical Center Forum

Destination Medical Center Forum

Just what is Destination Medical Center? What will it mean for the residents of Rochester and the citizens of Minnesota? How will the financing work? What kind of oversight will there be of State funding? What kind of projects can we expect in the Rochester area over the next 20 years? Join us on Wednesday March 20th at the Heintz Center for a public forum to learn more about particular aspects of DMC: financing, governance, public involvement, and the vision of DMC. Mayo will provide experts in each of these fields to answer specific questions and join in on public dialogue exploring the views and concerns of individual citizens. The event is free and open to the public.

Date - Wednesday March 20, 2013

Paws and Claws Prepares to Break Ground

Paws and Claws Prepares to Break Ground

After a six year capital campaign to raise funds to construct a new animal shelter facility, Paws and Claws Humane Society is breaking ground on its new 7,800 square foot building in Northwest Rochester. This structure will be the organization’s first purpose-built shelter for housing companion animals in its 36-year history. Paws and Claws received tremendous donor support from the public and received over 660 individual pledges from its capital campaign donors. The shelter was designed in cooperation with leading, nationally-recognized animal shelter architectural design and engineering firms. The target date for completion of construction and occupancy date is late May, 2013.

Grass Fire Warning

Grass Fire Warning

With the unusually dry weather and low humidity, the Rochester Fire Department is experiencing an above normal number of grass fires. The fires can be attributed to people burning leaves or other brush as they clean up their yards from winter.

The fire department is asking residents to refrain from any open burning until there is significant rain or until vegetation greens up. People are also encouraged to use the Olmsted County Recycling Center to get rid of leaves or other lawn debris. Burning within Rochester city limits is prohibited.

A Litter Bit Better Registration Now Open

A Litter Bit Better Registration Now Open

Old tires, a Richard Nixon mask, a refrigerator, and a broken flute case. What do these things have in common? They are just a few of the odd things found in Rochester during the last 5 years of litter clean-ups during the annual Help Make Rochester A Litter Bit Better! event. What will our volunteers find this year? So far, over 64 tons of litter has been collected by thousands of citizens since the program began in 2007.

This year’s event will be April 21-28th and registration is now open. Volunteers are encouraged to collect litter anytime during that week. Trash and recycling bags are provided, all you need to do is pick a location, pick a date, and pick it up! Registration information, maps and more can be found at www.RNeighbors.org/litterbitbetter
