Sunday, March 4thfrom 5:00-7:30pm will mark the Salvation Army’s 28th Annual Taste of the Town culinary event, sponsored by Sterling State Bank.  All donations from this event support the Good Samaritan Health Clinic which provides low cost medical and dental care to the working poor and under-resourced in Olmsted County.  The clinic is staffed by hundreds of local volunteer medical and dental professionals, as well as other committed community members.  Last year care was provided to thousands of individuals, comprising more than 5,000 patient visits. Each year the event raises about $50,000 and entertains as many as 600 people. This year's goal is $55,000. Twenty-seven local food and beverage establishments will contribute preparing some of their best dishes. Full table sponsorships are available for $500 which includes eight reserved seats. Half table sponsorships are available for $300 which includes 4 reserved seats.

Featuring over 200 ft. of ice, SocialICE will be once again the largest outdoor ice bar in the upper Midwest. The layout will expand this year and will include up to eight additional satellite ice bars. All satellite bars will be themed with various beverage distributors and specialty drinks. Enjoy the ambiance of the ice and lighting as you sit in the ice lounge, drink from real ice glasses, and enjoy the live music. SocialICE will offer live music from 7-8:30 pm each night and a live DJ from 4:30-7pm & 8:30-9:00 pm. All entertainment will perform live in the skyway over the Peace Plaza with music streamed out onto the Plaza for the ice bar attendees to enjoy.

Chili Cook-Off to Benefit the Alzheimer’s Association

Enjoy mouthwatering Chili made by some of the finest chefs in Southern Minnesota on Wednesday, February 8thRoscoe’s Fifth Annual Chili Cook-Off to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association will be held at Goonie’s Comedy Club in downtown Rochester from 11am- 1:30pm. Come hungry as there will be over 20 alluring chili’s to taste! Don’t worry, Tums are included! Purchase your tickets in advance for $10 by calling the Alzheimer’s Association at 507.289.3950 or karla.snider@alz.org.  Tickets are $15 at the door, discount tickets available if purchased in groups of 5 or more in advance.

T.G.I. Friday's Closes

T.G.I. Friday's Closes

A well-known restaurant in Rochester abruptly closed Tuesday. The company that owns T.G.I. Friday's says another restaurant will take its place. Nobody is saying which restaurant that is. Friday's is located of Highway 52 near the Miracle Mile Shopping Center. Owners tell us Friday's employees were offered transfers and opportunities at the new restaurant.

Free Meals and Discounts for Veterans

A number of restaurants are offering free meals for service members on Veterans Day. Most just ask for a military ID. Some of those participating include Olive Garden, Applebees, Subway, Outback Steakhouse, and T.G.I. Fridays. The Boys and Girls Club of Rochester is holding its annual "Chili Challenge" this Saturday at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds. There will be more than 25 different types of chili for you to enjoy. You then vote for your favorite.

The 27th annual Taste of the Town is almost here and now is the time to purchase tables and tickets. You can do so at any Sterling Bank location in Rochester or the Salvation Army. Taste of the Town is a night of spectacular food. It is set for Sunday, March 6th from 5:30 to 7:00 P.M. at Rochester's International Event Center. All proceeds benefit the Salvation Army's Good Samaritan Health Clinic, meeting dental and medical needs of the underinsured in the Rochester community. This year, 27 restaurants are taking part. Tickets are $40 and a table can be purchased for $500, seating eight.
