Rochester Symphony Orchestra & Chorale's Free Outdoor Concert

The Rochester Symphony Orchestra & Chorale's 2nd annual free community concert in the Peace Plaza, is Friday, June 21st. It starts at 7:30. Lights Camera Symphony!  is a performance of music from your favorite epic movies of our time. Don't forget your lawn chairs! Ice cream sandwiches and beverages will be available for purchase. The event is perfect for people of all ages.

You can also purchase tickets to join your friends at the Pre-Concert VIP Party at the Kahler Grand Hotel, space is limited. Tickets are $75 each. They gains you entry to the party, with a cash bar and appetizers, entertainment and a reserved seat in Producers Row for the concert! $50 is tax deductible the proceeds benefit the RSOC's mission and help create more events such as this in our community.

To provide additional color and vitality in downtown Rochester and to promote a friendly pedestrian experience for visitors and residents alike, the Rochester Downtown Alliance’s Downtown Cultural Initiatives Committee is gearing up for more Public Art initiatives to be installed during the Summer of 2013. The Downtown Cultural Initiatives is a committee that focuses on utilizing the Rochester community’s art and cultural assets in creating a vibrant, unique downtown that has a strong, diversified base for economic prosperity.

BaconFest Rochester

BaconFest is a fundraiser for the Sunset Terrace Elementary Playground Fund. It will be held Thursday, February 7th, from 5:00 to 9:00 at the Ramada Hotel located at 1517 16th Street Southwest in Rochester. Tickets are $25 and can be bought online in advance or at the door with case the night of the event. There will be a silent auction and endless amounts of bacon dishes for you to try including bacon sundaes and Pig Candy. Submit entry on 8 ½ x 11” sheet (enter as often as you like)

Submit in the form of a circle

Name, address and phone number on back of entry

Design must include – dates of festival - June 21 – 30, 2013, “Cheers, Bring on the Fest”, and the words -  Rochester, MN.

SocialICE, Rochester's Ice Bar is Back!

SocialICE—Rochester Minnesota’s Ice Bar, features seven 12-foot ice uniquely designed and themed ice bars. Each bar will have a unique theme along with a signature drink. Bar themes range from Ice Games, where you can participate in games made of ice, to Mardi Gras. The hours of operation will expand this year and be open from 4:00-10:00pm. Be sure to bring your camera to snap some photographs of the exceptional photo opportunities. Enjoy the ambiance of the ice and lighting as you sit in the ice lounge, drink from real ice glasses, and enjoy live music. Live bands perform in the skyway overlooking the crowds below on the Peace Plaza, with the music piped outdoors. New this year will be live ice carving demonstrations and kids’ activities from 4:00-6:00pm, each night. Also, check out the Wall office, featuring ice sculptures sponsored by several downtown businesses.

As temperatures begin to drop – albeit slowly – the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota (BBB) is offering some tips on choosing a garage door repair company. Though there are many reputable firms to choose from, the garage door industry has historically had some issues; typically with non-local businesses claiming a local connection.

“Most business owners know that many customers prefer to deal with a local company,” said Dana Badgerow, president and CEO of the BBB of Minnesota and North Dakota. “To capitalize on that, some out of state firms purchase local phone numbers which re-direct to call centers elsewhere. While this practice is not uncommon, we prefer it when companies are upfront about their location and clear in regard to their local presence.”
